The area is home to unique & rare species as snow leopard, markhors & wolves. Other wildlife reported in the area comprises ibex, fox, marmots, ram chakors, & migratory birds. In order to protect the wildlife, the area of this valley has been declared a national park since 1993 and now a larger part of Hopper Valley is part of the Central Karakoram National Park (CKNP) which is largest park of Gilgit – Baltistan region with an area of 10,000 square km. Hunting has been a common pursuit in the past & its considered a status symbol. This of course has been a main threat to the wildlife in the valley. But since the local communities have been involved in various wildlife conservation programs, people have become much more conscious about protecting their natural heritage.

Most of the area of Hopper Valley falls in the alpine zone & there are no full – fledged forests in the area. There are patches of natural forest at different places in the valley, where Juniper trees grow. Sea buckthorn, a remarkable shrub with over a hundred uses, many of them medicinal, grows everywhere in this area. Besides this semi – forest bush, a number of other medicinal plants also grow on mountain slopes in wild.
